Hi Hulkster, Greeting from Vietnam. I am just about to fly back to Singapore and then back to Thailand the following day.
We had a great hash meet for 4 days up in the small city of DaLat in the central hills of Vietnam. Bloody cold up there and I even had to buy a warm jacket (all of $5.00 for a name brand jacket). The first run was in miserable rain, rain, rain, and me and two others sort of got lost and were an hour and a half on the trail. One of the hares told us to go up this hill and then down....so, we went up and down the other side, up and down again, and again, all on no paper of course and then I said this is silly, we are getting further and further towards the Laos border and if we go much further, it would be harder to retrace our steps. So, we went back and by the time we got in, the circle had just started. The hare came up to us and apologized profusely, it turns out he meant for us to go up the first hill and come back down the same way...he was just trying to add a bit of time to our run this way but as he was Vietnamese, the english didn't translate that way.
The next day was the big run and we were spared the rain and cold and it was a lovely run through the mountains and forests in Central Vietnam. Big dinner and dance that night and party, party, party. Next morning was a shakeout run followed by a lunch at the venue...sun came out for this one and it gave us a chance to see the country side a bit more (as opposed to looking at things through a mist). Very beautiful and DaLat is the garden centre of Vietnam with many, many different varieties of veggies being grown in just about every little square inch that can hold a plant. Looks like a lot of hard backbreaking work for the locals but they seem happy and smile a lot.
There was also a red dress run on the first Fri after the long run where I got lost. I skipped this one because of the extra long run I did earlier in the day and besides, I was still cold from the rain and it continued to rain through the Red Dress run.
I don't know if you are interested in all this but you might want to copy this to all the Kamloops hashers...you can call it "News from a wandering Kamloops Hasher".
Take care, Nothing, on on
Sounds like he’s having fun. Enjoy Nothing!
